Reviving Community Spirit at the Buffalo Central Terminal

Group of Broadview volunteers posing together

March 14, 2024

As we shared last fall, Broadview is helping with the revitalization efforts of a community gathering space outside the Buffalo Central Terminal. Organizers in the community are working to revive the historic former train station, and last year they installed benches and tables on the "great lawn." Some of the custom-built benches were stolen.

Last fall, Broadview donated funds to cover the cost of material and fabrication costs to replace the stolen bench so that a local company, The Foundry, can replace two that were stolen from the Buffalo Central Terminal’s greenspace last summer. The Foundry is a community-based makerspace committed to hosting afterschool arts, STEAM, entrepreneurship sessions, and workforce development opportunities for young adults.

Broadview’s commitment to this project did not stop with a financial donation. Last Wednesday, Broadview employees from our Buffalo region volunteered with the Foundry. The volunteers helped with the bench fabrication by sanding and staining the wooden pieces.

With help from our Broadview volunteers, the benches are expected to be finished by spring, when as part of the commitment, Broadview volunteers will also help with installation and greenspace cleanup.

Stay tuned for the finished product this spring!
