Broadview Donates $750,000 to Hunger Relief Efforts to Address Immediate Needs Across New York State
November 12, 2025
In response to the ongoing federal government shutdown, widespread furloughs, and recent reductions in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding, Broadview CEO Michael Castellana announced to employees that the credit union is donating an additional $750,000 to support local hunger relief programs and nonprofits throughout the Capital Region, Buffalo, Syracuse, and Binghamton.
The timely funding will help food pantries and hunger-relief organizations respond to the sudden and severe strain caused by the partial suspension of SNAP allocations. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 42 million Americans rely on SNAP benefits, including thousands of individuals and families in our footprint who are uncertain about where their next meal will come from.
“We can’t solve the SNAP crisis. We can’t solve furloughs. We can’t solve all the problems beyond our control. What we can do is allocate $750,000 across 55 organizations so they can help us to make a difference to the impacted people in our community,” said Broadview CEO Michael Castellana. He went on to highlight the incredible work being done by these organizations and praised their leaders for stepping up during this challenging time.
Broadview’s donation will directly assist organizations operating food pantries, meal programs, and shelters, including organizations such as the City Mission of Schenectady and Catholic Charities of Onondaga County, who are working hard to meet increased demand.
“None of this can happen without friends like Broadview. We’re not surprised you’re standing up now because you always stand up. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for not only doing it, but as usual, exceeding our greatest expectations,” said Executive Director of the City Mission of Schenectady Mike Saccocio.

“I hope all the folks at Broadview know how incredibly fortunate we feel to have this relationship with you. That kind of commitment across your entire system, to give three quarters of one million dollars restores faith in humankind,” said Catholic Charities of Onondaga County Executive Director Michael Melara. “At the local level your gift will make a huge difference in our food pantry operations where folks are coming to see us every day. It’ll have an immediate impact on some of the most vulnerable members of our community.”
This investment is in addition to the more than $500,000 Broadview has already donated to nonprofits committed to fighting hunger across the state. In total this year, Broadview, its employees and members have invested more than $1.2 million to help feed our neighbors in need during this period of uncertainty and stress.
The credit union extends its gratitude to fellow businesses and individuals who are also stepping up to support local hunger relief organizations. Broadview also thanks our community partners for their tireless, ongoing work to feed and strengthen New York’s most vulnerable residents.
