Broadview Makes a Splash for Albany Families
July 16, 2026
Amidst a heat wave and just in time for the Fourth of July, the City of Albany officially made a splash with the opening of its public pools for the season, including the new Albany West Community Pool.
For Broadview, the moment was more than the start of swim season. It showed how businesses, nonprofits, civic leaders, and public officials can come together to support families, neighborhoods, and community well-being.
Broadview helped lead the effort to bring corporate and community partners together in support of the City of Albany’s aquatics program, helping ensure the city’s four public pools are open, staffed, free, and accessible to residents this summer.
“Broadview is proud to support the effort to open the City of Albany pools because it strengthens the quality of life of local families and keeps these important community spaces open,” said Broadview CEO Michael Castellana. “These pools give families a place to make memories and bring city residents together across generations and neighborhoods.”
The initiative was celebrated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Albany West Community Pool, where city leaders recognized the public-private collaboration behind the summer aquatics program. The program is supported by $400,000 in state funding secured by Assemblymember Gabriella Romero, along with more than $400,000 from corporate and community partners including Broadview, CDPHP, Tri-City Rentals, Albany Medical Center, Albany Housing Authority, and the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.
For families across Albany, that support means more than open gates and filled lanes. It means children have safe places to play, neighbors have welcoming places to gather, and residents have free opportunities to stay active and cool off throughout the summer.
Albany Mayor Dorcey L. Applyrs emphasized the importance of partnership in expanding safe, structured opportunities for young people and families.
“Government cannot do this work alone,” said Applyrs. “By bringing together our state delegation, businesses, nonprofits, community organizations, and City departments, we are creating a coordinated system of support that gives young people safe places to gather, opportunities to thrive, and families the resources they deserve.”
By turning partnership into pool access, Broadview is supporting a healthier, safer, and more connected Capital Region while continuing its commitment to convening partners and investing in local needs that improve quality of life close to home.
